Private Joseph Williams

The background of this man is not known at present.

Joseph Williams enlisted in the North Irish Horse (possibly at Mullingar, County Westmeath - see David Moore) on 5 May 1917. He was described as being 5' 10½" tall, with a fresh complexion, dark brown hair and hazel eyes. He gave his age as 24, his birthplace as County Cavan (possibly Lisagoan), and his occupation as a labourer.

Williams (together with David Moore) was reported to have deserted while en route to the regiment's reserve base at Antrim on 7 May 1917. It is not known if he was subsequently apprehended or returned to duty.
